Stepping Forward, Breaking Barriers: Commemorating International Epilepsy Day 2026, 14th March 2026
Epilepsy affects millions worldwide, yet the heaviest burden often comes not from the medical condition itself, but from the social stigma surrounding it. In commemoration of International Epilepsy Day & World Purple Day 2026, the Neurology Department of FK – UNSRAT successfully hosted a vibrant community advocacy campaign.
Under the global rallying cry #FightAgainstStigma, this event was organized to raise public awareness, promote neurological health, and foster an inclusive environment where individuals living with epilepsy feel supported and empowered.
Empowerment Through Action: Our Event Highlights To engage both mind and body, the commemorative event featured four key public-health initiatives:
- Walk for Awareness: Participants took to the streets in a collective stride, symbolizing our shared journey toward a society free of misconceptions regarding epilepsy.
- Public Education: Our neurology team actively distributed educational materials and flyers, equipping the public with vital first-aid knowledge for seizures and dismantling deep-rooted myths.
- Wellness in Motion: An energetic joint exercise session that highlighted the positive impact of regular physical activity on maintaining overall brain health and neurological well-being.
- Solidarity in Frames: Capturing the spirit of unity, medical professionals, residents, and community members stood side-by-side to reinforce our commitment to the cause.
A Glimpse of Our Solidarity
The energy of the day was beautifully captured as participants gathered to show that no one has to fight epilepsy alone.

“Epilepsy is a neurological condition, not a limitation. By spreading accurate clinical knowledge, we change lives from fear to understanding, and from isolation to unwavering support.”
